I’m told that our lives aren’t worth much,
They pass like an instant, like wilting roses.
I’m told that time slipping by is a bastard
Making its coat of our sorrows.
Yet someone told me…
That you still loved me
Someone told me…
That you still loved me.
Well ? Could that be possible?
I’m told that fate makes fun of us,
That it gives us nothing and promises everything,
When happiness seems to be within our reach,
We reach out and find ourselves like fools.
Yet someone told me…
That you still loved me
Someone told me…
That you still loved me.
Well ? Could that be possible?
Well ? Could that be possible?
So who said that you still loved me?
I don’t remember any more, it was late at night,
I can still hear the voice, but I can no longer see the face,
„He loves you, it’s secret, don’t tell him I told you.”
You see, someone told me
That you still loved me
Did someone really tell me?
That you still loved me
Well, could that be possible?
I’m told that our lives aren’t worth much,
Passing in an instant, like wilting roses,
I’m told that time slipping by is a bastard,
Making its coat of our sadnesses.
That you still loved me
Someone told me…
That you still loved me.
Well ? Could that be possible?

They say our lives aren’t worth much,
They pass in an instant like roses do.
They say time slips away like a bastard,
that it makes coats from our grief.
However someone told me…
Refrain
You still love me,
Someone told me that you still love me.
Is that possible?
They say destiny mocks us,
That he gives us nothing yet promises everything.
It’s as though happiness is within reach so we extend our hand only to realize we were wrong.
However, someone told me…
Refrain
Who was it that told me you still loved me?
I can barely remember because it was late at night. Although, I can still hear the voice, I just can’t describe it.
“He loves you, it’s a secret, don’t tell him I told you”.
See, someone told me…
You still love me,
tell me that this is true….that you still love me, is this possible?
The original message was posted a while ago, however I think you have missed some subtleties.

Thank you So much!! I love Carla’s lyrics, and this song is so beautiful!!
Where is your blog title picture from? I love that picture.
great translation 😀 great song
thank you so much:)
I’ve listenend to the song, maybe 100 times, exploring the subtleties of her voice, the gentle caress of the music. Without ever reading the lyrics, I let my mind construct a million translations of its own.
I’ve finally searched for a translation – a real, honest-to-goodness translation. Thank you to the original poster, for crossing the song into the realm of my English tongue. Further thanks to Leanne Wahlstrom for rounding out the translation with a gentle hand.
Now, I’ll play it again – for the 101st time – with the knowledge of its intended message. I don’t know anything about Carla Bruni; not even a photo:
But – I’d marry her tomorrow if she’d sing for me but once.
Carla is my goddess of love, mercy and compassion. i worship her.
This is fantastic. Definitely the best translation I’ve read so far.
Je à vous dit bravo!

Awesome translation, thank you! 🙂 it’s a very sweet song.
thank you for sharing. 🙂
I recently got out of a long term relationship and i have a new appreciation for this song. When u lose something special, u look for it everywhere, sometimes even in places that dont exist. U misinterperet coincidences for signs. U look and hear for things that arent there. This song describes this not only lyrically but musically as well. The background music stays the same pretty much the whole song because the process of getting ur heart broken is static as well. It simply continues until one accepts that „fate makes fun of us” and then one can move on. Thanks for the great translation.
This is wonderful! Carla Bruni is great.
nice!

Hey!
First of all, thanks for uploading this, I hope this song means as much to you as it means to me. Unfortunately I don`t speak french, but it somehow feels so unimaginably well written lyrics. It made me delete someone I loved, and get back on searching for something people called love.
Peace and regards,
Paulius
